24th December 1998?
Health & Safety (Safety Signs & Signals) Regulations 1996

The Regulations implement the European Safety Signs Directive (92/58/EEC)
which has been designed to standardise safety signage across Europe to ensure
that with the free movement of labour there is no risk of safety signs being
misunderstood.

How do the new Regulations affect you?

The new Legislation:

Requires employers to use a safety sign whenever there is a risk to Health
& Safety that cannot be controlled by any other means.
it:
Demands that all safety signs contain a pictogram as part of their intrinsic design
features. (this includes fire safety signs)
These Regulations became Law in the UK on 1st April 1996 but allowed a
transitional period until December 24th 1998. All fire safety signs should have been changed
or added to so that they contain a symbol before that date, are your up to date?.

The new Legislation regarding Health & Safety Law Poster:
